Deletion of our forums and move of our blogs on Sunday

On Sunday, November 3rd, our forums located at awpwx.org/forums will be deleted due to lack of interest and activity. There have no been no active members, including the administrators. At first it seemed like a good idea, but it's gone no where. At this point it's a waste of webspace.

The North Alabama Weather blog currently located at northalweather.wordpress.com will not be permanently deleted, instead it will remain a back up blog for awpwx.org/northal/blog. Alternatively, going to the North Alabama section of the main AWP website will show you the recent forecast, Hazardous Weather Discussion, and Forecast Discussion  up front. This will provide easier navigation and understanding.

Weather Message Updates 9/24/13

The updates won't change much on our end. Here are the official notes for Weather Message Beta 4.0 Beta 7:

8/20/2013

     WxMesgServer

1.   Now sends the correct emwin ftp user name and password when using ftp ingest at program startup.

1.   Corrected an issue that caused an argument out of range exception when resending a graphic email.

1.   The Request List form will now open the main form if the request list tab is selected and the main form is minimized.

    WxEmwin

1.   Changed the WX-14 serial processing routine to address a possible error condition.

Aside from those changes, the following changes have been made within the software that will be noticeable to users:

REMOVED All SPC products, such as Mesoscale Discussions, Watches, and Outlook updates. This is to stop cluttering of messages non-related to Alabama weather.

ADDED Area Forecast Discussions from BMX and HUN. 

ADDED Zone Forecast Products from BMX and HUN. 

Weather Message Outage Tonight

Beginning at 10:00 PM tonight, the weather alert server will be taken down for about a half hour while updates are performed. During the outage, real-time alerts will not be sent to either Facebook or Twitter.

The downtime will be so the server can be updated to Beta 6 of the 4.0 software for Weather Message. There will also be a few other updates applied during this time, which will be posted once the process is completed.
